Tic, tic, ticking…
Vale is in our church’s youth group. Overall they are a pretty good group of kids, and I’m fond of the vast majority with perhaps a minor exception here or there. I mean, they’re kids, they’re immature, they’re sinners… but honestly, they are fascinating human beings and I love them all (even the ones I’m not fond of) and I especially love being around them. Their energy and potential inspires me. They are like plants poking up through the ground and you wonder what beautiful bloom they’re going do have one day. In fact in a way to help Vale, one of em is reading the blog to understand more. Yeah, I’m talking to you Captain, you know that’s right! A second may join, he’s The Doctor:
I need a doctor, Call me a doctor, doctor, doctor to bring me back to life…
The kids get together for sporting games (redundant?). They’ve been playing basketball and the Doctor reached out to Vale and asked him if he would come and play. Without even knowing what he was saying I could tell that it was about sports and peers, because Vale was ticking something fierce. Vale has a few tics and depending on the level of anxiety he adds more to his repertoire. Typically Vale’s main tic is in the right side of his face, but on this aforementioned occasion it was all the way down through his shoulders…
Vale used to love sports. He’d play anything anytime with anybody. He’s naturally athletic, fast, has big hands and is very competitive. Last spring we had the youth group over to play ultimate Frisbee and Vale was right in there mixing it up with the upperclassmen. But that was before. Because of the weight loss he just doesn’t have it anymore, it being stamina and endurance and I think it kills him. Couple that with playing with his peers… from church. Oi.
Tune in tomorrow to find out how it went down. ;) Ooo, don’t you love the suspense?
